Republicans closed out the ninth inning of the annual congressional baseball game with a commanding lead of 10 - 0 over Democrats. However, early the next morning additional home runs started arriving by mail for the Democrats.
Democrats, who had struggled during the game, had campaigned to permit Home Runs by mail despite Republican protests that, "They clearly shouldn't count" and were "Obviously a tactic to cheat". Democrats however argued that not allowing mail in home runs was racist and delegitimized the non-players they represented.
Over the course of the evening and into the early hours of the morning, Republicans were forced to watch as their10 point lead slipped away - replaced by an overwhelming victory for Democrats with over 81 million home runs mailed in.
Democrats area already strategizing for 2023 when they hope to begin accepting home runs by text message and twitter poll.
